Lauftheater Graz

KUNST KLUB KRÄFTNER GRAZ Reitschulgasse 13, Graz, Austria

Solo performance: Franck Bedrossian - The spider as an artist More info in https://lauftheatergraz.com/programm/   In retrospect, I do consider this piece already as a pivotal experience in my writing, especially for string instruments. This is mainly because I was, at that time, willing to experiment and articulate new sound textures for the string instruments, and still maintain and develop the polyphonic dimension of the musical discourse, even though elaborated for a solo instrument. This double aim had been in my mind for several years, and composing it gave me a beautiful occasion to discover and combine techniques that would possibly allow me to achieve this goal. As a cause or as a consequence, an invisible poem by Emily Dickinson, as transparent as a spiderweb can be, is present throughout the piece, written with the bow on the body of the instrument.   The Spider as an Artist Has never been employed — Though his surpassing Merit Is freely certified By every Broom and Bridget Throughout a Christian Land — Neglected Son of Genius I take thee by the Hand — The Lauftheater is a response to our fast-paced lives and a society without time. An uninterrupted theatre machine; a theatre house that questions and breaks artistic boundaries; a space that tests and defines new art practices. We are three women from three different countries. We are united by an intersectional feminist approach to art and cultural policy. We question power structures within these and want to break up and change these structures, hierarchies and patriarchal relationships with a different theatre house, the Lauftheater, and thus contribute to a fairer society!
